10 Most Anticipated Games of 2020
- 2020-01-29 09:05
This year is very promising for the video game market. In December, we’ll finally see the next generation of consoles. It will be the year of Netflixilizing of the further video game market with Xbox Game Pass, Apple Arcade, and Google Stadia. Aside from marketing, the year will bring us plenty of fantastic new titles too. Many of them will be the returns of legendary franchises, while others will experiment with new mechanics and stories. From our list, you will know about the most anticipated titles that will come out this year.
1. Animal Crossing: New Horizons
There has been no new games in the series for 8 years already! At last, developers are near the finish line and revealed the exact release date. On March 20, we’ll be able to get the game for Nintendo Switch! Judging by trailers, the series preserved the original cute style of human and animal characters. Besides, it will introduce the brand new crafting system that will let you construct unique furniture and extra instruments.
2. Cyberpunk 2077
This is perhaps one of the most rumored games of the last few years, and facts about it are incredibly tasty. First, the game features Keanu Reeves as one of the characters. Second, its confirmed soundtrack includes tracks by stars like A$AP Rocky, Grimes, and Run The Jewels. And, third, it’s a creation of CD Project Red, the studio that created one of the best games series in history, The Witcher.
The game will combine a first-person shooter with RPG mechanics and stunning visuals, that’s all we know for now. At the same time, the gaming society has so many doubts about the game that we’d not wish to be at the place of the developers. The team took great responsibility, deciding to ditch The Witcher and start a new franchise from the ground up.
3. Doom Eternal
The loud return of the series in 2016 was a pleasant surprise for everyone. Developers managed to make a brand new game with canonic Doom features and pure brutal action. Doom Eternal is announced as a sequel with a load of new mechanics, guns, more severe monsters, and larger locations. The game will hit PC, PS4, Xbox One, and even Switch on March 20. Hopefully, it will hold the quality bar on the same height.
4. Final Fantasy VII Remake
The original Final Fantasy VII was an absolute hit in 1997. In fact, it was so good that fans started to ask Square Enix for a remake back in 2000. At last, on March 3, 2020, after 23 years of rumors and around 7 years of development, this PS4 exclusive will be released. Although the game will feature a new combat system, new voicing, and improved narrative, it will pay enough respect to the legacy of the original game. Let’s wait and hope that it’s the last time when we wait for a remake for 23 years!
5. Ghost of Tsushima
Sucker Punch, the developer of the Infamous series, has prepared another exclusive for the platform, and it has all chances to become iconic. The story of Ghost is based on 1274 historical events known as the 1st Mongol Invasion to Japan. The island of Tsushima was devastated by invaders and, Jin Sakai, the protagonist, appeared to be the last alive samurai who could liberate the land of his ancestors.
Dynamic melee combat and stealth are the main tactics spotted in trailers. The mission of Jin Sakai is to stop the spreading of invasion and help the resistance to rise from underground and beat Mongols.
6. Half-Life: Alyx
While we all were waiting for Half-Life 3, Valve did what they want and developed a new Half-Life game for… virtual reality! The game will come to PC VR on March and demonstrate the previously unseen VR gameplay quality. The reveal trailer spotted many features that require inventing new technologies. It means that Valve will either make a breakthrough and give a second life to VR or destroy the genre completely.
7. Halo: Infinite
This legendary series kept quiet for 5 years. In 2020, Master Chief will finally return to play in the biggest Xbox Series X exclusive so far. We don’t know anything about the game because the cinematic trailers didn’t provide us any clue. The only rumor is related to the word ‘Infinite.’ It could mean that the game features an open world that’s much bigger than it used to be in Halo 5.
8. The Last of Us Part II
This game will become one of the best-selling PS4 and PS5 exclusives for sure. It’s a return to the dangerous post-apocalyptic universe, in which Ellie and her dad managed to find a safe place to live. However, Ellie doesn’t want to stop and embarks on a new adventure to seek vengeance for the pain that she has to bear. The plot will revolve around the price of justice and the limitless human violence. Naughty Dog wants us to see who are the real monsters in the world.
9. Minecraft Dungeons
Instead of working on Minecraft 2, Mojang will introduce a dungeon crawler set in the Minecraft-styled universe. But this time, we won’t be able to dig for hours and build mad things in the creative mode. Minecraft Dungeons will be about the exploration of rogue-lite realms and dungeons with up to 3 of your friends online. The release is planned for April, and we’re anticipating a soft-core hack-and-slash action with a bunch of hilarious gags and a flexible character development system. It’s not a game that should be taken seriously anyway.
10. Watch Dogs Legion
This unique hacker simulator will come back with a brand new story about life in post-Brexit London. Similar to the events of the industrial revolution, the wide use of automated systems made thousands of people unemployed. You will play DedSec, a brave hacker who wants to give people what they deserve. For that purpose, he decided to start a revolution. By recruiting an army of NPCs, he grows a network of hackers who fight against the new system.
